Stirling Castle

A few weeks ago, my flatmates and I took the train to Stirling. There’s a beautiful cathedral and abbey (both of which are only open in summer), but the castle is what the city is famous for, and that’s where we spent the majority of our day.

Luckily for us, it finally snowed. Actually, I’m surprised we survived the trek from the train station up the hill, given how violent the wind was…

I’m not exaggerating when I say that we were nearly blown off the castle’s battlements.

But even stiff with cold and exhaustion, it was worth standing in the freezing courtyard, listening to an ecstatic tour guide in tartan trousers regale us with tales of the castle’s previous occupants, amongst which was Mary Queen of Scots.

It was well worth the visit. Hopefully this weekend’s journey to Inverness will be equally enjoyable.

Until next time.
